Ward 5 to have councillor competition

WEST CARLETON – The 2018 Municipal Election nomination period has ended and there will be a race in Ward 5.

Three candidates are vying for the council position and five candidates are vying for the public school board trustee position. Long-time Zone 1 Catholic school board trustee John Curry was acclaimed.

All three Ward 5 candidates have already been profiled by West Carleton Online.

First time candidate Judi Varga-Toth was profiled on June 26. The Deep Roots Food Hub co-founder was the first to file on June 6.

Incumbent, Coun. Eli El-Chantiry filed his papers July 3. The former Lighthouse Restaurant owner has represented Ward 5 on council since 2003.

Third-time candidate James Parsons filed on July 16 and is a Vydon Acres resident.

Zone 1 candidates vying for the Ottawa-Carleton District School Board trustee position include incumbent Lynn Scott, Gurpit Kindra, Jon Flemming, Ken Lumsden and Brandon Rabideau.
