Arnprior hopes to be test site for driverless vehicles

ARNPRIOR – Arnprior’s elected representatives want to be at the leading edge when autonomous vehicles roll into town.
At a meeting on July 9, council took the opportunity to instruct staff to follow up on an offer made by the Ontario Good Roads Association.
General Manager of Operations John Steckley says only roads that are deemed appropriate will ever be used in the AV testing program.
“What they are looking for is a list of streets from all municipalities ranging from Windsor to the City of Ottawa,” he said. “They’ll be using these approved streets and local roads as test corridors for future autonomous vehicle testing.”
Steckley says there’s no guarantee Arnprior will be accepted into the pilot program.
