Fires in Renfrew County still blazing

Special to WC Online

RENFREW COUNTY – Three fires in Renfrew County continue to burn up the forest.

All three fires are located in the township of Head, Clara and Maria and continue to burn out of control. The most recent update from Aviation, Forest Fire and Emergency Services indicates the largest of the three seems to have lessened slightly, from 800 hectares to less than 700.

However, two smaller fires have grown in size. The fire south of Grant’s Creek is now 37 hectares in size and the blaze parallel to Highway 17 has grown to 90 hectares.

Fire crews continue to assess the situation and tackle the fires in an effort to keep them contained and get them under control. This week’s forecast calls for potential showers, a welcome change from the extremely dry conditions experienced through much of July.
