Dip a line for free Family Day weekend

WEST CARLETON – This Family Day, all residents can enjoy free fishing in Ontario without having to purchase a license.
Renfrew-Pembroke-Nipissing MPP and Minister of Natural Resources, John Yakabuski, says this long weekend is the first of four free fishing events in 2019. He adds the Ontario government is trying to reduce barriers to make it easier for people to explore different opportunities while enjoying Ontario’s world class lakes, rivers and streams.
Free fishing events in 2019 include Family Day weekend (Feb. 16 to 18), Mother’s Day and Father’s Day weekends and Family Fishing Week at the end of June.
The fishing industry in Ontario generates $2.2-billion annually. Yakabuski encourages everyone to get out and enjoy the free fishing events to create lasting memories with friends and family. To plan your fishing trip or check on local ice conditions, click here here.
