C Bay’s Old Sled Run on hold in 2021

CONSTANCE BAY – One of the regions most popular snowmobile runs will not be happening in 2021 due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

The Constance Bay Legion Old Sled Run is one of the largest events of its kind attracting riders from across the country and across the border. Last year’s event, the 14th annual run, attracted more than 200 classic and antique snowmobiles for a run out of Constance Bay, across the river and over Quyon, QC.

Participants gather for breakfast at the West Carleton Royal Canadian Legion, head out for the run, and come back to the Legion for a chili dinner. The event is also an important fundraiser for Branch 616.

“The level of interest is growing,” organizer Mike OReily told West Carleton Online last year. “The ride across the river on a day like this is just incredible. Gavan’s Hotel itself is an attraction of itself. A lot of people go to the hotel just to have a look.”

The popular event will be taking a pass this way.

“Next Sunday (Feb. 14) would have been the 15th Annual Constance bay Vintage Snowmobile Run,” Darryl Fiebig released in a statement Saturday (Feb. 6). “Unfortunately, because of COVID-19, that cant happen. For many, that event was the highlight of the riding season. Mike, Eli (Coun. El-Chantiry), many volunteers and the sponsors made that day one to talk about for months after.”

Fiebig is an organizer of the Ol’ Bogies Vintage Snowmobile Show held in Renfrew.

“This event served as a fundraiser for the local legion who so graciously opened their doors for the festivities,” Fiebig said. “We, The Ol’ Bogies of Renfrew and Area propose a virtual show for the next seven days.”

Fiebig asks enthusiasts to post their favorite sled photo whether it be from the run or not to the Antique and Classic Snowmobile Club of Canada Facebook page and e-transfer a small donation to fiebigdd@sympatico.ca.

“In seven days, all funds raised will be donated to the Constance bay Legion,” Fiebig said. “A presentation photo will be posted on the Facebook page. Let’s show our appreciation to those who make this hobby something to be proud to be involved in. Thank You.”
