ARNPRIOR – Damage to neighbouring communities was on the minds of Arnprior Council at Monday’s (Sept. 24) municipal council meeting.
Council reflected on those who may have lost everything in Friday’s tornadoes.
Mayor David Reid says the town is making a contribution similar to those given for disasters in Goderich and Lac Megantic.
“We feel their pain for lack of a better word and we’re here to help,” Mayor David Reid said.
Council voted on a resolution of support for the tornado victims and attached a good will cheque for $2,000 which will go to the Red Cross.
Meanwhile, the community has also provided support to their neighbours to the east.
Prior Sports Bar and Grill proprietor Erica Nicholson has family in the Ward 5 community. The Prior has served as a dropping off point for those in Arnprior who wish to help tornado victims. All week long they have collected donations of clothes, supplies and cash destined to support those in West Carleton.
“It was definitely busy Saturday, all week long really,” Nicholson said. “I think people want to help but they don’t know where to take their donations so we just put it out there we would accept donations and figure out where to take it and get it there. We already have a couple of truck loads were going to take down.”
