WC Wolverines, NCAFA 2020 tackle football season cancelled

WEST CARLETON – The National Capital Amateur Football Association (NCAFA) made the difficult decision to cancel the fall football season this year due to COVID-19.

NCAFA President Gawain Harding says the league is at the mercy of the City of Ottawa and Province of Ontario guidelines, and following the recommendations from those organizing bodies and the Ontario Football Alliance (OFA), will cancel the 2020 Ottawa amateur tackle football season.

“With the current state of the pandemic fluctuating on almost a daily basis, it is clear the ability to return to play tackle football in 2020 was in serious jeopardy,” Harding released in a statement yesterday. “That and the risk to the health and safety of our players, coaches, officials, volunteer and parents required we take action. After thoughtful discussion, the NCAFA board of governors voted to suspend tackle football for the 2020 season and set the stage for a grand return in 2021, our 66th anniversary.”

Harding says the cancellations of the season was not an easy decision, but one made in the best interest of the players, coaches, parents and volunteers.

“While we are disappointed in not having tackle football this fall, we feel this is the correct decision for all involved and our sport,” he said.

This of course means the West Carleton Wolverines tackle football season will be cancelled this year. The Wolverines girls’ touch football season, held between May and June, was already cancelled earlier in the year.
