WC Online free access Feb. 11 to Feb. 17

WEST CARLETON – Hello West Carleton.

West Carleton Online is celebrating seven months in existence, but we really, really need your support to get to our first birthday. While we continue to grow, we still have a ways to go before we are a viable business. In our first seven months we have published almost 1,000 stories constantly promoting the businesses, organizations, community leaders and events of West Carleton. We break news and we write original content no other media service provides. We volunteered our time to help during the tornado; we provided free access to our tornado coverage as a community service; and we are currently donating advertising space to the West Carleton Warriors as they attempt to win the Good Deeds Cup. For those of you who follow us on Facebook and Twitter, you already know we constantly promote and recognize our community there as well.

We are the cheapest (paper or electronic) Ottawa-based news service available at $50 for an annual subscription. We are West Carleton born and we have a passion for our community. If you are like me, and just haven’t gotten around to subscribing yet, now is the time – we do need your support. If you still don’t know about us, visit the home page or, heck, give the publisher a call. We may be using new technology to share our news (not one single tree hurt in seven months of publishing), but we are very old-school in operations. When you email or phone West Carleton Online, you are directly contacting the publisher (Jake Davies). If you want an unbiased opinion, find a subscriber (there’s lots around) and ask them what they think.

What we have done so far is on a shoe-string budget. And with that budget, we built an amazing, easy-to-use website; we post original content daily; we have grown our team including regular, local contributors and an advertising executive (welcome my Kindergarten classmate and Constance Bay resident, our advertising executive Shannon Spallin). We want to grow, we want to tell the world about how great West Carleton is and we want to be a long-term provider of community news.

For those of you who just don’t know about us yet. Join us from Feb. 11 to Feb. 17 as we provide a week of free access to West Carleton Online – our (and our current subscribers) Valentine’s Gift to all those who haven’t signed up yet. Come see what we’re all about. If you are a West Carleton business, please read the attached letter. Links in letter posted below. Thank you.

Sincerely, publisher Jake Davies.
