Vaccinations coming to Constance Bay

CONSTANCE BAY – The Constance Bay Pharmacy is now booking pre-registration for the COVID-19 vaccine.

After much lobbying that included Coun. Eli El-Chantiry stressing the importance of providing vaccinations at small rural pharmacies, vaccination locations are finally making their way to West Carleton.

“We’ve asked the province and the city to ask our rural pharmacies,” El-Chantiry told West Carleton Online during a pop-up vaccination clinic in Kinburn on April 1. “The Constance Bay Pharmacy gave out more than 350 flu shots this season. That would be a great help for the system. It’s not our decision to choose what pharmacies will give out vaccinations and they sometimes ask the bigger pharmacy companies. But if they will ask our smaller pharmacies it will save a lot of travel and anxiety.”

In mid-April the Pharmasave West Carleton Drug Mart in Carp was added to the list of vaccination destinations.

Now, after even more lobbying by Constance Bay Pharmacy owner Tamara Awada, Constance Bay will soon have a local pharmacy to get their COVID-19 vaccination.

“Our community and West Carlton communities deserve to have available health care services for them in their own ward,” Awada told West Carleton Online last night (May 11). “It was heartbreaking for me to see our eligible-for-vaccines residents struggling to hunt for an appointment. Some of them went all the way to Kingston to get their vaccine.”

Awada is still waiting for the shipment of vaccines to arrive in Constance Bay, but her pharmacy is read to poke arms.

“I am glad I can put our team’s professional expertise to help putting these doses into as many arms as we can as it becomes available to us,” she said.

To pre-register and book an appointment for a vaccination Awada has a website where patients can register online and complete the necessary forms to be eligible to receive the shot (there is also a phone number on the site). Once the Constance Bay Pharmacy receives its shipment of COVID-19 vaccinations (Awada is unsure at this time which vaccine the pharmacy will be receiving) staff will call the patient and inform them of the time of their appointment.
