U12 Electric off to provincials

FITZROY HARBOUR – The U12 West Carleton Electric fastball team are currently qualified for the provincial championship.
The Electric spent the July 14 weekend in Cobourg, ON competing in the nine-team U12 Provincial Qualifying tournament for the west district. The tournament seeds teams in to either the A or B pool.
The Electric is made up of 12 boys and one girl from the West Carleton, Calabogie, Renfrew, Arnprior and Westport area coached by Trevor Barton, Shawn Rebertz and Sean Lecuyer.
“This is the team’s third year together,” coach and West Carleton resident Trevor Barton said. “The first year the team was seeded in the B division and we didn’t attend the provincial tournament. Last year, the team won the B division at the provincials. This year our sights are set on winning the provincial A division. This past weekend was the first step in accomplishing this goal, finishing in the top three to qualify for the A division and represent the East, along with Napanee and Springbrook, at the provincials in Innerkip, (ON). We have an extremely competitive group with kids from across the Valley.”
The Electric started off the tournament with an 11-1 victory over Port Perry, mercying the team after three innings. They followed that up with a 12-3 win over Springbrook. On Day 2, the Electric faced the 2017 provincial championship from Napanee and dropped a nail biter 12-9. The team than lost their rematch with Springbrook 15-12 and finished in third. Napanee won the tournament.

The Electric will compete for the provincial championship on the Aug. 11 weekend in Innerkip, ON.
