Arnprior rec centre showing its age

Special to WC Online

ARNPRIOR – The Nick Smith Centre, a double ice-pad, swimming pool and recreation centre, is getting old and is due for a physical.

The Nick Smith Centre in Arnprior is a focal point for recreational activities and community gatherings. The Town’s General Manager of Operations, John Steckley says an adminstrative team is looking into the structure’s condition.

“The building has been there since 1977 and it is certainly showing its age,” general manager of Operations John Steckley said. “There are a number of areas we are focusing on and looking at for improvements and upgrades over the coming years.”

Steckley says the group has already convened at a site visit and discussed their initial findings in detail. They will continue to put their heads together over the summer months. The review will make a good file to put on the desk for the council that takes office this coming fall.
