Teacher job action begins in WC
Special to WC Online
WEST CARLETON – Local elementary and secondary school teachers join their provincial counterparts in job action beginning today (Nov. 26).
The Elementary Teachers’ Federation of Ontario (ETFO) will not be completing Term 1 Report Cards, Kindergarten Communication of Learning reports or participating in school board activities on PA Days.
ETFO members represent all public English elementary teachers across the province along with education support and professional support personnel with the Ottawa-Carleton District School Board (OCDSB).
During the strike action the union says its members will continue to support the learning needs of students, maintain contact with parents and show solidarity by participating in collective actions. Those participating in job action will meet today outside the workplace and enter their schools 15 minutes before the start of the instructional day.
Strike action is also planned today by the Ontario Secondary School Teachers’ Federation (OSSTF). The OSSTF represents all public English high school teachers in the province along with early childhood educators and office managers with the OCDSB.
Before and after school and during lunch periods, OSSTF members will head to the picket lines and distribute information to parents and the public. The direct impact from the OSSTF job action is staff will stop preparing for EQAO testing, completing and submitting Ministry of education data reports, unpaid staff meetings outside the regular school day and providing comments on secondary report cards.
