Ottawa, provincial COVID numbers in decline

Special to WC Online

OTTAWA – Ottawa is reporting 16 new cases of COVID-19 in the city Saturday over Sunday (July 12) however, Ottawa Public Health (OPH) warns the numbers are skewed due a lag in reporting.

“You will notice an increase in the total number of reported COVID-19 cases in (Saturday’s) report,” OPH registered nurse Katie Bourada said. “The daily figures are extracted from our database at 2 p.m. the day before. Please note there was a slight delay in the data extraction yesterday, and the increase in cases in today’s report reflect more than a 24-hour period.”

The total number of COVID-19 cases Ottawa has had is now at 2,146.

The number of deaths, however, remain at 263 — that means Ottawa hasn’t reported a new death attributed to the virus since June 26.

There is currently one person hospitalized, with no one in the intensive care unit, but 53 cases still remain active in the city.

The number of resolved cases is now at 1,831 — four less since Friday’s report.

There is now four ongoing outbreaks in institutions (one more than yesterday).

Provincially, numbers are declining, and Ontario was able to record sub-200 confirmed COVID-19 cases for the 13th day in a row yesterday (July 12).

Ontario is holding steady with 129 new reported cases of COVID-19 yesterday, and is reporting three new deaths.

It’s been 13 days since Ontario reported more than 200 new cases of the virus  and 17 days since Ontario reported more than 10 deaths in its daily reports.

According to Sunday’s numbers, that brings the total number of cases to 36,723 and the death toll sits at 2,719.

The number of resolved cases is reportedly as 32,534 — more than 88 per cent of cases have been resolved.

In Ontario 116 people are in hospital, 29 of which are in the intensive care unit — similar to Saturday’s which listed128 people in hospital with 31 in the ICU.

Eighteen patients are on a ventilator. The government has conducted 25,726 tests since Saturday, bringing the total number of tests to 1,691,419.
