OTTAWA – The deadly COVID-19 has taken the life of another Ottawa resident and adds eight new cases today (Sept. 1).

Ottawa Public Health (OPH) is reporting another COVID-19-related death in the city, while it counts eight new cases.

There hadn’t been a death linked to the virus reported in Ottawa since Aug. 20. The local death toll since the beginning of the pandemic is at 267.

The death reported locally was the only one across the province related to COVID-19.

With eight new cases reported Tuesday, OPH says there have now been 2,975 lab-confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the city since March. Of that total, 2,489 (83.7 per cent) have been resolved.

OPH knows of 219 active cases of the virus in the community.

Ten residents remain hospitalized with COVID-19. One patient is in intensive care.

Two more institutions are reporting outbreaks, according to OPH, bringing the city’s total to 16. One staff case has been reported at Portobello Manor long-term care home, while two cases were confirmed in children at Centrepointe Childcare.
