Ottawa bylaw issues eight COVID-related charges over long weekend

OTTAWA – For the most part, residents are conforming, but Ottawa Bylaw issued a handful of tickets for COVID-19 related rule breaking over the Victoria Day long weekend.
According to a statement from the City of Ottawa’s Bylaw and Regulatory Services director Roger Chapman, eight charges were laid in relation to gatherings and mask violations.
Five charges relate specifically to gatherings at private residences, while two charges were issued for a gathering of more than five people at the Richcraft Recreation Complex in Kanata.
Bylaw officers also fined one person for not adhering to the city’s temporary mandatory mask bylaw.
A verbal warning was issued over a social gathering at a residence in Alta Vista. The fine for violating the Reopening Ontario Act is $880, while the fee for not following the temporary mask bylaw is $240.
