Roddick John Grant
Roddick John Grant, 81, passed away peacefully in his sleep during the early morning hours of Saturday, September 1, 2018 at the Arnprior and District Memorial Hospital after a short illness. Born in Montreal, QC on September 12, 1936, Rod was raised by parents Rodderick Henry Grant and Gladys Vivian Nutbrown. Rod is pre-deceased by two spouses, Cheryl (Pye) Grant and Susan (Drapeau) Grant. They did not have any children. Rod is survived by his brother Ian and his wife Doris, their 2 children Chris and Joanne, 3 Aunts, 1 Uncle, many cousins, and countless friends. After attending Sir George Williams (now Concordia) University in Montreal, Rod moved to Ottawa to complete his education at Carleton University and then followed one of his passions – to become a teacher. His education efforts rewarded him with a long and fulfilling 30+ year career as a Secondary School English teacher at Bell High School in Ottawa ON. Rod was a man of many passions and talents. He ran a very successful Apiary and related business in Kinburn, ON for almost as many years as he was teaching. He volunteered his time, energy and talents to the Fire Services of West-Carleton Township and the Canadian War Museum. He and his wife Cheryl worked together promoting the performing arts at The Ottawa Little Theater. Rod was very passionate about animals – he befriended many cats, was a strong supporter of PETA, the National Audubon Society , The Humane Society, and many other philanthropic endeavors. He had a keen appreciation of fine art / photography and Jazz / Classical music were always a constant presence in his home. Private interment will take place at the Grant family plot in the Huntingdon Protestant Cemetery in Huntingdon, QC. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in memory of Roddick John Grant to your local Humane Society or Volunteer Fire Service. Rod was a kind and giving person and will be sadly missed by everyone whose life he lit up with his special spark.
