Cycling Safety event on the Trans Canada Trail
Special to WC Online
OTTAWA – Come learn bicycle safety skills on the Trans Canada Trail.
On Sunday, July 29, the Ottawa Police Service and Safer Roads Ottawa are holding education and awareness initiatives on the Trans Canada Trail in Stittsville.
“Warm weather means more people are about on the trails,” said Cst. Paul Baechler. “This initiative is an opportunity to remind all path users to follow the rules for everyone’s safety and enjoyment.”
The Stitsville event will start at 10 a.m. near Abbot Street and West Ridge Drive. The Kanata event will start at 12:15 p.m. at Shetland Park in Kanata.
The focus of the event will be to review the safest ways for cyclists and pedestrians to share the paths, including how to pass other cyclists and pedestrians, visibility, speeding and having proper equipment.
Officers will be on hand with ATVs to show and tell what it’s like to patrol on trails and off-road conditions. Safer Roads Ottawa will also be available for questions or concerns from residents.
