All things normal on Mississippi River watershed

Special to WC Online

WEST CARLETON – The Mississippi River watershed is normal.

The Mississippi Valley Conservation Authority (MVCA) says the Mississippi River watershed, which travels through the western corner of West Carleton, has returned to normal conditions for this time of year.

“A normal status indicates no flood conditions exist,” the MVCA released in a statement today (May 12). “However, even during normal conditions, the inherent risk to personal safety associated with flowing water still exists.”

Today’s update is to the water safety statement for the Mississippi River watershed issued on May 5 and is indicative of the lowering levels along the river which as recently as April 22 was at flood warning levels. On April 28, the MVCA decreased the status to flood watch, and decreased the status again on May 5.

“Water levels and flows have returned to normal seasonal ranges,” the MVCA Water Management team said. “While additional rainfall may cause some increases, flooding conditions are not expected at this time.”

This status is in effect until an update is issued.

Daily water levels and flows are available on the MVCA website at www.mvc.on.ca/water-levels.
