Advance municipal election voting in Ottawa Oct. 7, 14

Special to WC Online

OTTAWA – Advance Vote Days for the 2022 Municipal Elections will take place on Fridays Oct. 7 and Oct. 14.

Voting places will be open from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., with the exception of long-term care centres and retirement homes which may have reduced hours.

Electors can verify when and where they can vote on their voter notification letter or by using the Where Do I Vote? Tool on ottawa.ca/vote.

“You can bring your voter notification letter with you to the voting place to expedite the voting process; however, it is not required to vote,” city staff released in a statement today (Oct. 4)

If you did not receive a voter notification letter, you can verify your information on the Voters’ List using the Am I on the Voters’ List? tool on ottawa.ca/vote. If your name does not appear on the Voters’ List, or if you would like to amend your information, you can do so at your voting place on voting days. Applications to Add or Amend my Information on the Voters’ List will be available at every voting place and are easy to fill out on-site.

“All electors will be required to present a piece of identification in order to receive a ballot at their voting place,” staff said. “The identification must show your name and qualifying Ottawa address. Photo identification is not required. If you cannot present an acceptable proof of identity and residence, you can make a statutory declaration prior to being issued a ballot.”

Electors who do not vote on one of the Advance Vote Days can vote in-person on Voting Day, Monday, Oct. 24.

On this day, voting places will be open from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. with the exception of long-term care centres and retirement homes which may have reduced hours.

Electors who are unable to make it to a voting place on voting days can appoint a proxy to vote on their behalf. To learn more about appointing a proxy, visit ottawa.ca/vote.

All voting places are fully accessible. Visit ottawa.ca/vote or email elections@ottawa.ca for information about the accessibility tools available to electors at voting places.
