MILANO CORTINA – Dunrobin’s superstar snowcross siblings Hannah and Jared Schmidt are heading back to the Winter Olympics to compete for gold for Canada.
Both Schmidts have won World Cup golds in recent seasons in the snowcross skiing event. Jared, 28, and Hannah, 31, both grew up in the Dunrobin area near the Ottawa River, and both competed in the 2022 Olympic Winter Games in Beijing.
Despite living on the water and having parents who founded the Ottawa River Canoe Club, skiing has been their calling as young adults.
Snowcross involved several ski racers descending a ski hill at the same time with the top two finishers moving on in a heat until the final race. Competitors race against each other instead of a clock navigating turns and jumps down the hill. Both Hannah and Jared have found success at the highest level over the last couple years.
Both won World Cup races in the 2023, 2024 and 2025 seasons.
Hannah resides and trains in Calgary joining the national ski cross team in 2018. At thee 2022 Beijing Olympics, Hannah made it the small final finishing third and seventh overall.
Jared started skiing at age two, and began competing international in ski cross in 2017. He too competed at the Beijing Olympics and was eliminated in the quarterfinals.
Ski cross at the 2026 Winter Olympics in Milano Cortina will be held on February 20 and 21 at the Livigno Snow Park in Livigno, Italy. The competition features a seeding round followed by head-to-head elimination heats, culminating in the finals to determine medal winners.
