CARP – 2025 Carp Fair President of Agriculture Kyle Rivington was seriously injured in a June 19 collision and the West Carleton community has come out in force to support him.
Rivington, who was named a Carp Fair president following the Jan. 23 annual general meeting, was involved in a serious motor vehicle collision on Highway 417 in Ottawa on June 19 and remains in the intensive care unit at Ottawa General Hospital.
The collision occurred near the Nicholas Street off-ramp around noon on June 19.
One vehicle was allegedly rear-ended by a second vehicle with the Ottawa Paramedic service saying preliminary indications were the driver of the first vehicle was struck by objects from the rear of the vehicle.
A Ministry of Transportation traffic camera showed one vehicle stopped on the highway in the area, with the vehicle facing across the left-hand lane. The eastbound lanes of Highway 417 were closed entirely at Metcalfe until late afternoon while police investigated the collision.
An Ottawa Paramedic Service spokesperson said the emergency call had been for a vehicle that was rear-ended and then struck the guardrail.
Following the collision, friends of Kyle launch a GoFundMe page to support the married father of two and have already raised $43,579 of its $45,000 goal.
“As many have heard, Kyle was in a car accident on Thursday June 19,” Jaclyn Rivington released in a statement on the GoFundMe page. “He suffered significant head injuries and is currently in the ICU at the Ottawa Civic Hospital, under the care of a tremendous team. The team has told us recovery for traumatic brain injuries is a marathon, with no definitive prognosis until one year from the event.”
Jaclyn says the support has been vast and immediate.
“We have been overwhelmed and are forever grateful for the unparalleled support of our community and family,” she said. “The demands of the farm or parenting do not stop, despite tragedy, and people have been stepping up to help in every domain. It has been providing us with strength during this emotionally charged time. People have asked to donate monetarily, and as such we have created this platform. We plan to use any funds donated to help Sophie and the kids during this unforeseen chapter or for future rehabilitation needs and accommodations.”
“Kyle Rivington is one of the most genuine, caring people I’ve ever had the privilege to know,” friend Andrew Hunt released in a statement today (July 3). “He suffered severe brain injuries and the road ahead is incredibly uncertain. Let’s show them what love and community support looks like when it really counts. Thank you for taking the time to read this.”
