West Carleton wine tour a romantic winter escape

WEST CARLETON – Celebrate your love for each other and all things local for Valentine’s Day by hopping aboard La Vida Local’s West Carleton Winter Wine Tour on Saturday, Feb. 16 for a special tour to KIN Vineyards, Farmgate Cider, Needham’s Market Garden and Dairy Distillery.
Together, you’ll spend a day savouring the best of eastern Ontario’s emerging wine country, comfortable and safe on the tour bus, with a special pick up and drop off at the Carp Fairgrounds.
“This romantic Valentine’s tour begins at KIN Vineyards in Carp, where you will sample from their regionally-unique wine selection, ranging from Frontenac and Pinot Noir, to their special Kindling sparkling Vidal Blanc,” says La Vida Local co-owner Iona Green.
From there you’ll travel to picturesque Farmgate Cider, a family-run cidery located in the beautiful Mississippi Valley. “Here, be sure to try the “Bee Squared” cider, a blend of Empire, Cortland and Spartan apples, back-sweetened with a hint of apple blossom honey,” suggests co-owner Ruth McKlusky.
All tastings include food pairings, such as chocolate-dipped strawberries paired with the flavourful Highway 29 fruit wines on offer at Needham’s Market Garden, between Pakenham and Arnprior.
At your final stop of the day, you’ll be among the first to tour Almonte’s new state-of-the-art Dairy Distillery, where you’ll be treated to their specialty “Vodkow mootinis” made from a unique vodka-style spirit crafted from milk permeate.
“Our epicurean adventures are both fun and truly informative,” says McKlusky, “as you have the chance to meet the local farmers and producers, all of whom love to describe the process of crafting their signature wines, ciders and spirits.
