WCDR sets up amazon.ca registry

WEST CARLETON – West Carleton Disaster Relief (WCDR) is helping you pick out the perfect Christmas present for those still reeling from the devastation caused by a Sept. 21 tornado.

The volunteer organization that has taken on much of the heavy lifting relating to getting a tornado-ravaged community back on its feet again, has created an “amazon.ca holiday registry for the West Carleton families affected by the tornado,” WCDR volunteer Tanya Laughlin informed West Carleton Online.

I was inspired by a friend in Florida who did one similar for the families affected by hurricane Michael in October,” Laughlin said. “Hers was not hand-picked items, only basics like socks and underwear that she’d drop off to the community centres. I wanted to take it to the next level and have the families choose the items they need/want. Since our community is so organized, we are able to reach the affected families directly to get their hand-picked lists to help make their holidays brighter.”

The registry contains specific items needed by families who lost their homes and/or belongings in the Sept. 21 tornado. Generous souls who wish to donate to one or more of the 141 families registered with the WCDR can click on the link above and purchase an item that was specifically requested by one of the families.

“Due to Amazon’s limited name options, this looks like a baby registry but it’s not,” Laughlin said. “Well there is one baby due in the group. This is a wish list for the affected families in West Carleton who lost their homes and/or belongings. Every item on this list was hand-picked by one of the families as an item they need to help rebuild their lives. They need your help to restock their homes and get Christmas gifts for the holidays.

“The long and painful journey to rebuild with all of the red tape and lengthy processes has put a strain on these families in every way. The items purchased will be shipped to a centralized location and delivered to the families who asked for them. Thank you for your generosity, and happy holidays.”
