Week 1: West Carleton Online holiday trivia contest

By Jake Davies - West Carleton Online

WEST CARLETON – Have you finished digging your car out of the snow yet?

Great, now it’s time to have some fun. Every week in December West Carleton Online will be giving away one subscription, and we’ll be giving it to someone who knows West Carleton really, really well, in the form of a trivia competition.

Each Monday we will share five trivia questions focused on West Carleton. Each Friday we will pick a winner. The person with the most correct answers will win. If there are bonus questions, they will count towards picking the winner. If there are multiple perfect scores, the winner will be decided by draw.

The contest is open to everyone, subscribers and non-subscribers alike. So, obviously, subscribers will have a distinct advantage. We hope if you are a subscriber, you will gift your prize to someone who doesn’t have one, but you don’t have to. Heck, if you get all the answers correct, and you don’t have a subscription, maybe you don’t even need one.

Anyway, all entries must come via email to westcarletononline@gmail.com to be considered and please put ‘West Carleton Online trivia challenge’ in the subject line because we get a lot of emails in a day.

We will be sharing trivia questions on our Facebook (via Jake Davies as due to the Online News Act, we are unable to use our own page), X (formerly Twitter) and Instagram pages, but keep in mind, all answers must be submitted via email to count.

Happy holidays and please feel free to play every Monday (although winners can only win once).

Without further ado, here are this week’s questions:

  1. What West Carleton communities are hosting Santa Claus Parades this holiday season? Bonus: what do all the parades have in common this year, for the first time in West Carleton history?
  2. Who are the co-chairs of the Dave Smith Youth Treatment Centre Village of HOPE campaign?
  3. Name all of Ward 5’s councillors since amalgamation? Hint: every one of them is a West Carleton Online subscriber.
  4. What does the acronym BESS stand for? Bonus: name the three BESS projects proposed in West Carleton.
  5. Who was the original owner of Kinburn Farm Supply, whose current owner is celebrating 40 years of ownership this year?

Don’t forget to send your answers to westcarletononline@gmail.com, by Thursday, Dec. 7 at 11:59 p.m. Also, please share this story widely, it is free access, and we want as many people as possible to play and have a chance to win a one-year West Carleton Online subscription as we can include. This Friday (Dec. 8) we’ll announce this week’s winner.
