WC’s 14 Days of Christmas giveaways

WEST CARLETON – In West Carleton, the 12 days of Christmas starts Dec. 1 and are an opportunity to win an amazing local product each and every day. Also, there’s 14 of them. Merry Christmas.

Carp-based Real Estate agent Lauren DeRoche wants to put the spotlight on local businesses this holiday season and has launched a contest that will give people the chance to win an amazing, unique and local prize every day between Dec. 1 and Dec 14 with a total value of more than $450.

DeRoche of Lauren DeRoche Real Estate, is relatively new to the community, launching her own business last April. She’s learned a lot about her community in her first year and now she wants to help get the community’s focus on the many great businesses that call rural Ottawa west home with the 14 Days of Christmas contest launching next Wednesday (Dec. 1).

“Every business has its own day,” DeRoche told West Carleton Online from Alice’s Village Café Thursday (Nov. 25). “I didn’t know how much work it was going to be. I was only going to do one week, but there was so much interest, I decided, what the heck, let’s do two. The prizes are all local and unique. Some businesses’ prizes are strictly for the giveaway.”

DeRoche is relatively new to the community moving to Ottawa three years ago, then Dunrobin two years ago. She ran a similar contest last May, and said it was a learning experience as well as a lot of fun.

“That was a lot of fun learning about all those local businesses,” DeRoche said. “The response was the same too. Everyone was so grateful and so excited.”

DeRoche’s 14 Days of Christmas contest has 14 new businesses participating. DeRoche says its all about supporting local.

“It’s about supporting each other after a long year,” she said. “If you’re going to buy gifts this year, buy local. There’s so much amazing stuff and it’s only steps away.”
