WCFAC limiting access but still providing food

WEST CARLETON – The West Carleton Food Access Centre (WCFAC) is limiting access to their Carp Road facility but still serving the community ensuring those who need it, won’t go hungry.

“The WCFAC is coordinating the re-distribution of food for our regular clients and anyone who needs help due to COVID-19,” WCFAC board chair Mary Braun released in a statement today (March 24).

Currently Food hamper pick-up is by appointment only.

The WCFAC will be open March 23 to 27.

“We will be closed from March 30 to April 3 to replenish needed items,” Braun said. “Social distancing procedures are in place for everyone’s protection.”

Other COVID-19 procedure changes include a halt to accepting food donations.

“We are not asking for food donations at this time,” Braun said.

The reason they are not accepting food donations included the facts public health officials have asked the public to limit their shopping; the client service centre is closed to the public at this time; and donated items must be disinfected and have expiry dates checked.

The WCFAC is still accepting monetary donations.

“If you would like to contribute, monetary donations are always welcome and will help the centre purchase items that are needed in a safe and manageable way,” Braun said.

Donations of money may be made by cheque: to WCFAC – 5670 Carp Rd., Kinburn, ON K0A 2H0 or e-transfer to WCfoodaid@gmail.com.

“We know the people of West Carleton and surrounding area are caring and generous,” Braun said. “Please take care of yourselves and your families.”

To book an appointment for food hamper pick-up you can contact the WCFAC by phone at 613-832-5685, on Monday, Wednesday or Friday until 1 p.m. You can also book by email at WCfoodaid@gmail.com. Once you contact the WCFAC for an appointment, someone will call you back to set up a pick-up time.
