WC schools avoiding COVID-19 so far

OTTAWA – Of the 81 Ottawa-area schools reporting cases of COVID-19, none are in West Carleton.

The four school boards in Ottawa are reporting 81 schools with at least one case of COVID-19. 

The Ottawa-Carleton District School Board is reporting 16 schools with a case of the virus. In total, 14 students and two staff members are affected. See the full list here

There are 22 schools in the Ottawa Catholic School Board reporting cases. In total, 38 students and six staff members are affected. See the full list here

Conseil des écoles publiques de l’Est de l’Ontario is reporting 15 schools with cases of COVID-19, affecting 15 students and six staff members. See the full list here.

Conseil des écoles catholiques du Centre-Est is reporting 28 schools with at least one case of the virus, affecting 43 people. See the full list here.

Meantime, there are currently nine schools in Ottawa reporting outbreaks of COVID-19. Outbreak status is declared when a school has two or more cases of the virus and a confirmed transmission.

Current outbreaks include:

  • Assumption School: Two student cases
  • École élémentaire catholique Montfort: One student case and one staff case 
  • École élémentaire publique Séraphin-Marion: Two student cases
  • École secondaire publique Louis-Riel: Two student cases
  • Collège catholique Franco-Ouest: Two student cases
  • Gabrielle Roy Public School: Two student cases
  • Lester B. Pearson High School: One student case and one staff case
  • Lycée Claudel Private School: Two student cases
  • Monsignor Paul Baxter School: Two student cases and two staff cases

Ottawa Public Health (OPH) says two more residents have died due to COVID-19, one of which lived at Chartwell’s New Edinburgh Square retirement home.

It’s the first death linked to the virus at the facility, which has dealt with 10 total cases of COVID-19 (six residents, four staff) since Aug. 31.

The outbreak at West End Villa has been the deadliest of the novel coronavirus’ ‘second wave’, killing 15 residents. OPH has recorded another two deaths at St. Vincent Hospital. West End Villa has seen 70 resident cases of COVID-19 and 35 staff cases since Aug. 30.

Ottawa’s COVID-19 death toll since March is now at 289.

The public health agency says there are 48 institutional outbreaks across Ottawa as of today (Oct. 1) – nine of which are in schools. That total is down one from yesterday as a small outbreak at Riverview Development Services ended. It there have been one resident and four staff members who have contracted COVID-19 between Sept. 11 and Sept. 30.

The Renfrew County and District Health Unit is not reporting any new cases of COVID-19 today.

The confirmed case number for the region remains at 52, with one additional case listed as resolved bringing the total to 43, with one death.

There’s a total of eight active cases across Renfrew County.

The active school cases in the area cases include one student and two staff at Fellowes High School and one student from Our Lady of Grace in Westmeath.
