Stolen car not stolen in Lanark OPP round-up

LANARK COUNTY – A man is facing charges after claiming he was carjacked in Lanark County, part of a busy week for the Lanark County police.
“The Lanark County Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have charged a man from Newmarket with filing a false report of a carjacking,” OPP Const. Joe Tereschuk released in a statement today (Aug. 3).
The initial report of the carjacking was made the morning of July 31, and police were provided with a description of a male suspect.
“The vehicle in question was located by police the same day in Tay Valley Township and it appeared to have been involved in a collision,” Tereschuk said. “Further investigation into this occurrence lead investigators to conclude the reported carjacking had not actually occurred.”
As a result of this investigation Raymond Francis-Burroughes, 27 Newmarket, ON, has been charged with public mischief. The accused is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Perth on Sept. 12.
“Between Monday, July 25, and Monday, Aug. 1, officers from the Lanark County Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to 366 calls for service,” Tereschuk said.
The Lanark OPP responded to 24 motor vehicle collisions in that time including three versus deer and one versus a bear.
“On July 28, Jeffrey Bain, 60 of Merrickville, ON, was charged with operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs and operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration over 80 as the result of a motor vehicle collision investigation on Highway 43 in Drummond-North Elmsley Township,” Tereschuk said.
The accused is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Perth on Sept. 19.
“On July 30, Julie Laurin, 52 of Carleton Place, was charged with operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration over 80 and operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs as the result of a traffic stop at a RIDE program on Lake Avenue in Carleton Place,” Tereschuk said.
The accused is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Perth on Aug. 22.
“On July 31, Jonathon Riley, 38 of Smiths Falls, was charged with operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs, failure of refusal to comply with demand and possession of schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking as the result of a traffic stop on Dufferin Street in the Town of Perth,” Tereschuk said.
The accused is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Perth on Sept. 19.
The OPP investigated eight domestic disputes over the last week and laid charges in one of the disputes.
“On July 28, a 58-year-old resident of Tay Valley Township was charged with spousal assault, domestic mischief and uttering threats to cause death or bodily harm as the result of a domestic investigation,” Tereschuk said.
The accused is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Perth on Sept. 12.
Officers of the Lanark County OPP investigated 14 theft complaints and three reports of fraud during the past week.
