Provincial COVID hospitalizations up 30 per cent over last week

ONTARIO – COVID-19 hospitalizations are trending up quickly according to the province’s most recent statistics.

COVID-19 hospitalizations in Ontario have gone up roughly 30 per cent compared to last week.

The province is reporting 857 people in hospital with the virus yesterday (April 4), compared with 655 on March 28. 

There is also a small increase in the number of COVID-19 patients in intensive care units (ICU) up to 168 from 158 one week ago.

The province says more than 10 per cent of hospitals didn’t provide an update on occupancy over the weekend.

Test positivity rate has gone up to 19 per cent, the highest since mid-January, when it hit 24.5 per cent during the Omicron wave.

No new COVID-19 deaths are reported in the province.

Ottawa Public Health is reporting one new death due to COVID-19 on April 4, with 11 people in the hospital due to infection. There were no individuals reported in the ICU because of COVID-19.
