Ottawa adds 76 new COVID-19 cases, loses one more to deadly disease

OTTAWA – Ottawa COVID-19 cases continue to hover near 100 and another victim succumbs to the deadly coronavirus.

Ottawa Public Health (OPH) is reporting 76 new cases of COVID-19 in the city today (Oct. 26), and reports another local death linked to the coronavirus.

Nine institutions have reported deaths related to COVID-19 during the city’s so-called second wave. Those institutions include the West End Villa long-term care home (20); St. Vincent Hospital long-term care (six); The Ottawa Hospital General Campus, 5N unit (three); The Edinburgh retirement home (three); Sisters of Charity retirement home (two); Perley Rideau Veterans’ Health Centre (one); New Edinburgh Square retirement home (one); Innovative Community Support Services (one); and Centre d’accueil Champlain (one).

There have been 317 deaths due to COVID-19 in Ottawa since March.

There are 59 institutions dealing with outbreaks of the virus as of today. OPH says it’s also tracking nine community outbreaks – seven of which have been linked to sports and recreation, and two of which are connected to workplaces.

OPH says there are 713 active cases of the virus in the city.

Hospitalizations due to COVID-19 are at 43 in Ottawa. Four of those people are being treated in intensive care.

Since the beginning of the pandemic, there have now been 6,636 lab-confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Ottawa, 5,542 of which have been resolved.
