Update: OPP on hunt for suspected Eganville murderer

UPDATE, Jan. 26, 1:41 PM – The Renfrew County Crime Unit and members of the Killaloe OPP have one person in custody in connection to an ongoing homicide investigation.

On Jan. 25, shortly before 9 p.m., police responded to a 911 call at a residence in the Township of Bonnechere Valley. One person was located deceased.

“Trey Gagnon, 18-years-old of Laurentian Valley Township has been located and arrested for Second-Degree Murder, contrary to section 235(1) of the Criminal Code,” OPP Killaloe Detachment Const. Catherine Yarmel released in a statement today. “There are no further risks to public safety.”

The investigation by the OPP Renfrew County Crime Unit, under the direction of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch, is ongoing. The investigation is being assisted by the OPP Forensic Identification Unit and is being conducted in conjunction with the Office of the Chief Coroner for Ontario and the Ontario Forensic Pathology Services.

Members of the community can expect to see continued police presence in the area as the investigation continues.

EGANVILLE – Renfrew County police are combing the Ottawa  Valley seeking a Laurentian Valley man suspected of a murder in Eganville yesterday evening (Jan. 25).

“The Renfrew County Crime Unit and members of the Killaloe Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) are currently investigating a homicide and are warning members of the public regarding a safety risk posed by the suspect,” OPP Killaloe Detachment Const. Catherine Yarmel released in a statement today.

“Police are seeking a warrant for the arrest of 18-year-old Trey Gagnon of Laurentian Valley Township, for the Criminal Code offence of Second-Degree Murder,” Yarmel said.

The wanted person may be operating a 2022 black four-door Honda Civic, with an Ontario plate of CHTE 185.

“If this person or vehicle is seen, members the public are advised to call 911 immediately,” Yarmel said. “Do not approach this individual. The investigation by the OPP Renfrew County Crime Unit, under the direction of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch, is ongoing. The investigation is being assisted by the OPP Forensic Identification Unit and is being conducted in conjunction with the Office of the Chief Coroner for Ontario and the Ontario Forensic Pathology Services.”
