Murray Robert Thompson, age 86, after a long struggle with Alzheimer’s passed away June 3/19 at Country Haven Home, Almonte. Predeceased by his beautiful wife of 58 years, Roberta Livingstone; his parents, Joseph and Lillian; siblings Vera, Gordenia, Marie, Gwen, Connie and Calvin. Survived by brother Jerry (Charlotte). Devoted father of Michael (Debbie) Mark, Kim and Lee (Helen) and fiercely proud Grandaddy of Kyle. Murray was raised on the farm in Althorpe.
As a youngster, he was stricken with polio and learned early on to overcome life’s challenges. He often told the story, with great affection, of how his father had the foresight to send him to Toronto’s Variety Village to ensure his future success. Murray enjoyed a long and rewarding career in data processing management. One of his career highlights was working with Mom in Brantford and marrying the love of his life. He cherished summers at the family cottage which he built with the help of many close relatives. Despite polio, he was a very strong swimmer.
His other passion was all about cars. He worked on them in his spare time and taught many family members how to drive. We would like to thank the staff at Country Haven for their dedicated and loving care of Murray. In memoriam donations to The Alzheimer’s Society of Lanark Leeds Grenville appreciated by the family. Visitation will be held at the Carp Chapel of Tubman Funeral Homes, 115 Rivington St., Carp on Saturday, June 15th, 2019 from 10:00 a.m. until noon, remembrance service to follow in the chapel.
