Special to WC Online

OTTAWA – New Year new rates to take the bus in capital city.

“OC Transpo fares are changing on January 1, 2021,” OC Transpo staff released in a statement today (Dec. 23). “All fares, except the EquiPass, Community Pass, and Access Pass, will increase by an average of 2.5 per cent to keep pace with inflation and the cost of providing transportation. There is no increase to EquiPass, Community and Access Pass prices.”

Discounted monthly pass and single-ride fare options are available for seniors, children ages six to 12, and eligible customers on a low income (EquiPass), or customers who receive Ontario Disability Support Program (ODSP) benefits (Community Pass). Seniors 65 and older ride at no charge on Wednesdays and Sundays, and children five and under ride at no charge every day. To check eligibility for reduced fares, visit octranspo.com or call 613-741-4390.

For 2021, the Family DayPass will be available for March Break, July and August, and during the Christmas holidays.

“Families or groups of up to six people, with a maximum of two adults, will be able to ride at the price of one $11 DayPass any day during these periods,” OC Transpo said. “The Family DayPass offers super value for families and groups riding transit with unlimited rides all day. Additionally, the Family DayPass can be used on any weekend throughout the year and all statutory holidays. DayPasses can be purchased at any ticket machine, or on a bus by simply asking the operator.”

OC Transpo is introducing new Bikesecure sheltered parking at Greenboro, Strandherd, St-Laurent and Fallowfield Stations.

“These bicycle parking facilities are sheltered and secured for registered customers only,” OC Transpo said. “Customers can sign up for access starting Jan. 1. Bikesecure spaces cost $10 a month plus a one-time fee of $6 for the key fob. Bikesecure is another way OC Transpo makes it easy for customers to connect to transit by bike.”

Customers interested in the program can call 613-842-3777 to register. Funding for the Bikesecure spaces was provided in part by the Government of Canada through the Public Transit Infrastructure Fund.
