Update: Lanark OPP on hunt for two armed suspects

UPDATE (Feb. 10, 2:01 p.m.) – The East Region Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) are releasing few details but say the Lanark County community is safe and have rescinded their ‘shelter in place’ order as of 1:55 p.m., Friday, Feb. 10.
Just before 1 p.m., the OPP stated those in the immediate area of the search were not longer in jeopardy.
“Residents in area of the 9th Line of Beckwith Township near the Beckwith Recreation Centre no longer need to shelter in place,” the OPP released in a statement at 12:40 p.m. “Investigators believe the individual has left the area. The search continues and will include the Sharbot Lake area.”
Roughly an hour later the police gave the all-clear.
“Lanark OPP advise the situation is safe and residents are no longer required to shelter in place,” the East Region OPP said.
No further details in the incident are available at this time.
BECKWITH – Lanark County police are on a manhunt looking for two armed suspects at large, the Lanark County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) released in a statement today (Feb. 10).
“Lanark OPP are investigating two armed suspects at large in the Lanark County and Sharbot Lake areas,” the Lanark OPP released in a statement and issued in a province wide Emergency Alert about an hour ago. “Police request that you shelter in place. Lock all doors and windows. Notify police of any suspicious person. If suspect seen, do not approach and call 911.”
Roughly an hour ago (11:20 a.m.) the OPP said there were searching the Beckwith area.
“Lanark OPP is currently involved in a police operation on 9th Line Road in the area of the Beckwith Recreation Centre,” the police said. “Residents are being asked to stay in their homes and lock windows and doors. Local school is sheltered in place.”
Police refute claims shots have been fired in the area.
“We are aware of rumours and reports there had been a shot or shots fired in the area,” the OPP said. “This is not true. The scene remains active at this time, and we continue to ask people in the area to remain in their homes and for other to avoid the area at this time.”
OPP identified the suspects as 33-year-old Lucas Young and 30-year-old Chase Lahaise, describing them as armed and dangerous.
Earlier in the day, the OPP told residents in Carleton Place to lock their windows and doors as there was a heavy police presence in the area.
