Kanata Sailing Club learn to sail program to set sail in June
DUNROBIN – The Kanata Sailing Club (KSB) is planning on hosting its learn-to-sail program for young boaters starting June 28.
“The Kanata Sailing Club has served West Carleton since the 1970s with its Junior learn-to-sail programs for the young ones from six to 15, and adult/youth learn-to-sail programs for those 16 and beyond,” the KSC released in a statement today (April 26). “Perhaps you’ve seen the sails on the Ottawa River and wondered about the experience. Perhaps you would cherish getting out on the water for some peace and quiet. Perhaps you think you’d be more into the challenge of handling a boat in rougher conditions and higher winds. Perhaps you’ve got a cottage with a dinghy and want to be sure everyone in the family has been properly trained up in sailboat handling. We can help with all these scenarios and more.”
The club, despite the name, is located in West Carleton at 1610 Sixth Line Road on the shores of the Ottawa River.
An added bonus, enrollment in to the program includes a one-year membership with the KSC “which will let you use the club’s fleet of dinghies any time you want following the completion of the program at no additional cost.”
“We encourage you to check out the club website, and in particular the one-week training offerings at this link,” the KSC said. “Take the training, qualify for independent outings on your last day of training, and come out on the river ‘til it’s too cold for you any longer.”
Learn-to-Sail begins June 28.
Due to COVID-19 restrictions the KSC has rescheduled Opening Day to Saturday, May 22. The KSC’s open house is tentatively scheduled for Saturday, June 5 noon to 4 p.m. Both dates are subject to change, so please check the website (www.kanatasailingclub.com) before coming out to the club.
