Team LIKE brings home another trophy

By Jake Davies - West Carleton Online

RIVERSIDE – The Huntley Curling Club’s (HCC) competitive U15 women’s team, Team LIKE, are starting off 2020 just like they closed 2019 – by winning.

Team LIKE was in the Riverside area yesterday (Jan. 5) winning the Ladies Curling Association (LCA) Bantam (U15) Bonspiel held at the RA Centre. The team won a Pembroke area bonspiel in early December giving them two championships in two tries.

It was a two-game day and Team LIKE swept, winning their first game 7-4 and their second game 9-0.

Unlike in Pembroke, Team LIKE had their full squad of five members and every player was able to get in a game.

Katrina Frlan, Lauren Norman and Isabella McLean played both games.  Erika Wainwright played the first game, and Samantha Wall played the second.

Conspicuously absent from the photo is a trophy.

“The LCA did not have the trophy available on Sunday, so when they have it ready for us, they will deliver it to the Huntley Curling Club,” dad Adam McLean told West Carleton Online today (Jan. 6).

Next week Team LIKE will be working on the corporate side of competitive curling – fundraising. The team will be hosting a fundraiser Wednesday, Jan. 15 at Boston Pizza (135 Roland Michener Dr.).

The President’s Challenge

In other HCC news, the club will be hosting the inaugural The President’s Challenge Bonspiel on Feb. 8 and 9.

It’s a battle between four Ottawa Valley curling clubs featuring four divisions and eight teams from each club. Aside from West Carleton’s only curling club, Richmond, Carleton Place and Almonte’s curling clubs will also be participating.

There will be two senior mixed teams, two mixed teams, two men’s teams and two ladies’ teams with points awarded in each division with a club champion to be named at the end of the President’s Challenge.

The HCC is also looking for some new volunteers to kick off the New Year.
