Special to WC Online

GALETTA – With West Carleton smack dab in the middle of the summer’s first heat wave, the Galetta Community Association (GCA) is offering its community centre (119 Darwin St.) as a place to cool off.

Temperatures in West Carleton are expected to reach 32 degrees Celsius today, but with the humidex are expected to feel like 39 C.

Environment and Climate Change Canada issued a heat warning yesterday (July 4) and it continues today (July 5) and is expected to stick around until at least Friday (July 7).

For those without access to air conditioning, the GCA invites you to hang out at the community centre.

“We have opened our Galetta Community Centre basement as a cooling centre today until 7 p.m.,” GCA board member Marsha MacGowan released in a statement today (July 5). “This is open to anyone that needs relief from our heat wave.”
