OTTAWA – While experts hope the area is peaking through the so-called second wave COVID-19 in Ottawa, numbers still hover near 100 new cases a day.
Ottawa Public Health (OPH) is reporting another five COVID-19-related deaths in the city and says 88 new people have tested positive for the virus.
According to OPH’s institutional outbreak dashboard, two of the five deaths happened at Revera’s The Edinburgh retirement home in New Edinburgh. The facility has been dealing with a COVID-19 outbreak since Oct. 6, and 11 of its residents, as well as five staff members have contracted the virus. Three residents have died after battles with COVID-19 at The Edinburgh.
OPH says another one of the five deaths is being reported by Innovative Community Support Services (ICSS).
ICSS is a non-profit charitable organization providing families and individuals with disabilities, community-based programs and services. It first reported a COVID-19 outbreak on Oct. 13 and seven of the people it serves have contracted the virus, as well as two of its staff members.
Ottawa’s pandemic death toll stands at 314.
OPH says 69 institutions continue to deal with COVID-19 outbreaks. It’s also still reporting six community outbreaks, which include one at a workplace and five in sports and recreation.
There are 44 people hospitalized with the virus in Ottawa – four of whom are in intensive care. OPH knows of 676 active cases of COVID-19 in the community as of today (Oct. 23).
Overall, there have been 6,384 lab-confirmed positive cases of COVID-19 in Ottawa since the pandemic began in March, with 5,312 of those resolved.
The Renfrew County and District Health Unit is reporting three additional community cases of COVID-19 as of yesterday (Oct. 22).
That brings the total to 70 confirmed cases in Renfrew County, with 58 cases resolved and one death. There are 11 active cases in the county. All active cases are in self-isolation.
Two of the new cases today are from the Renfrew area and the other is from the Arnprior area.
