Fire destroys Deerwood Estates home

DEERWOOD ESTATES – A Deerwood Estates couple is homeless after a garage fire yesterday evening (March 11) spread and took the entire home.
“Ottawa fire received a 911 call at 8:44 p.m. from the homeowners at 134 Terraview Dr. reporting a fire in their garage,” Ottawa Fire Services (OFS) public information officer Carson Tharris released in a statement yesterday evening (March 11). “With smoke and flames visible upon arrival, Ottawa fire crews declared a working fire at 8:54 p.m.”
Firefighters from OFS Station 64 in Carp were first on scene, but firefighters from across the region responded as is the OFS procedure for residential fires.
Eyewitnesses report firefighters filled tankers from overflowing ditches in the Marathon Village area as opposed to using the closest dry hydrant. Sources familiar with the incident report the entire house and all the belonging of the “older couple” who lived there were lost to the fire.
“There are no reported injuries at this time,” Tharris said. When the smoke alarm sounds, get out fast. You may only have seconds to escape safely. Call 911 from a safe place and stay on the line until advised to hang up by the dispatchers.”
