COVID-19 cases up by 37 in Ottawa Friday

OTTAWA – The city’s COVID-19 count jumped up by 37 cases today (Sept. 11) while one of the city’s worst institutional outbreaks is declared over.
Ottawa Public Health is reporting there are 255 active cases in Ottawa. OPH says 11 people are hospitalized – two of whom are in intensive care.
There have been 3,200 cases of COVID-19 in Ottawa since March. About 83 per cent or 2,678 have been resolved.
With no new deaths reported Friday, the local pandemic death toll remains at 267.
OPH says one of the city’s worst COVID-19 outbreaks at a retirement home this summer is over.
Between Aug. 16 and Sept. 9, Billingswood Manor Retirement home had saw six residents contract COVID-19 as well as four staff members. One resident died after battling the illness.
Aside from an ongoing outbreak at West End Villa, which is dealing with 30 cases of the virus as of Friday, the one at Billingswood was one of the worst outbreaks of the last couple of months, not only because the case count reached double digits, but previously, OPH hadn’t recorded a death at a long-term care or retirement home since mid-July.
There are still 15 institutions on OPH’s outbreak list, including six long-term care homes, four retirement homes and five childcare centres or summer camps.
