Constance Bay, Fitzroy Harbour OPL branches won’t re-open in 2020

WEST CARLETON – The Ottawa Public Library (OPL) says the Constance Bay and Fitzroy Harbour branches will not re-open this year.
OPL made the announcement today (Nov. 3) amidst the announcement of other branches re-opening for contactless returns and holds pick-up.
“OPL continues to plan for the re-opening of the Constance Bay, Fitzroy Harbour, Osgoode, Munster and Vernon branches in 2021, and is exploring options for services in these communities,” OPL staff released in a statement today.
Meanwhile, the OPL was able to re-open other facilities.
“As part of its phased approach to resuming physical services, the OPL is pleased to announce the re-opening of more branches that will offer contactless returns and holds pick-up,” staff said.
Holds lockers at the Hunt Club Riverside Club Community Centre reopened on Monday, Nov. 2.
Sunnyside branch - Monday, Nov. 16.
Hazeldean branch -Tuesday, Dec. 1.
Manotick branch - Tuesday, Dec. 1.
Rosemount (revitalized branch) - Thursday, Dec. 3 (first floor only). The Rosemount Temporary Location will close on Nov. 21.
Rideau branch - Monday, Jan. 11, 2021.
Rockcliffe Park branch - Monday, Jan. 18, 2021.
Orléans branch - in January, 2021.
“As a first step, only returns and holds pickup will be offered at these branch locations,” the OPL said. “In a recent customer survey, customers identified returning items and picking up holds as their most valued service at this time.”
The Bookmobile will resume service to all its stops later in 2020, with a modified schedule.
With this new wave of reopenings, 28 out of 33 OPL branches will be offering in-person services.
“The health and safety of employees and customers remains OPLs priority,” staff said. “OPL’s safe return to in-person services incorporates physical distancing requirements, enhanced sanitary controls and new protocols for employees and customers. OPL continues to follow direction from the Province of Ontario and guidance from Ottawa Public Health to stop the spread of COVID-19 in our community.”
