FITZROY HARBOUR – A chilly day aided by a frigid wind didn’t stop the fish from biting in the revival of the popular Fitzroy Ice Fishing Derby held Saturday, Feb. 12.

CONSTANCE BAY – For owner and founder Paige Munroe, when the Kinburn resident launched Northern Off Road Girls in 2020, she was expecting her business to be hosting events in-line with the female-empowering outdoor brand. But COVID-19 made sure that wasn’t going to happen.

CORKERY – Last Saturday (Jan. 29) the Corkery Community Association (CCA) celebrated a Canadian tradition – the outdoor rink.

CARP – It was cold, players had to change outdoors or get dressed at home, but the sun was out, the ice was great, and the Carleton Place Canadians junior A hockey team was having a great time on the Carp outdoor rink yesterday (Jan. 26) for some good old shinny.

CARP – 2021 was far from perfect, but it was a huge step up for the Carp Agricultural Society (CAS) which was at least able to bring back the Carp Fair from its one-year COVID-forced hiatus after a dreadful 2020.

CARP – The Huntley Community Association’s (HCA) revival of the winter carnival was short-lived as the global pandemic took hold just a few weeks following the successful re-launch in March 2020, putting an end to the feasibility of large, organized gatherings in the COVID-19 era.

WEST CARLETON – One of the community’s longest running annual events and biggest fundraiser, the Diefenbooker Race, has thrown in the towel, knocked out by the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

DUNROBIN – Step one of efforts to provide a new care centre for Dunrobin’s Holly’s Haven Animal Rescue is done, but lots more work, and fundraising, is still ahead before the desperately needed new building is ready for use.

CARP – In an effort to keep busy during the global COVID-19 pandemic work slow down, Meadowridge Circle resident Barbara McDougall became a community hero thanks to her efforts to keep kids occupied  and entertained during a trying time for the whole world.
