WEST CARLETON – The Ottawa River flooding currently waterlogging dozens of homes along West Carleton’s riverside communities is slowly declining this week, but expected to linger for some time yet.

CONSTANCE BAY – While the Ottawa River Regulating Planning Board (PRRPB) expected the river to peak Friday (May 5), West Carleton Disaster Relief (WCDR) volunteers and riverside residents noticed a rise of several centimetres Saturday (May 6) as they continued to try to protect homes in West Carleton.

WEST CARLETON – After weeks of high water, rainy days and endless sandbagging, the sun came out this morning (May 5) and the Ottawa River is expected to stabilize this weekend after peaking at some point today.

WEST CARLETON – The nature of this year’s flooding, the relatively long gap between the first peak on April 21 and the second peak expected tomorrow (May 5), has made recruiting volunteers a challenge for those who are leading flood mitigation work in West Carleton.

WEST CARLETON – Between Saturday, April 29 and yesterday (May 2), 63.1 millimetres of rain has fallen on Ottawa, and it continues to pour today (May 3). All that rain, is making its way to the Ottawa River.

WEST CARLETON – Days of rainfall have had an expected effect on river levels and flows throughout West Carleton, as residents brace for what will be the expected second peak in the 2023 freshet.

WEST CARLETON – After a day-and-a-half of rain, the Ottawa River is showing the results Monday (May 1) afternoon, visibly higher than it was heading in to the weekend.
