Carp Commons celebrates five years March 1

CARP – Last Friday (March 1), West Carleton’s premier retirement residence celebrated its fifth anniversary at its location in downtown Carp.

A small celebration was held with the staff and residents to acknowledge the day with a speech from their General Manager Darren Talbot.

The Carp Commons Retirement Village held its gala opening on Oct. 2, 2019 (of course we were there), but had been operating for several months before that.

While a major milestone, the fifth anniversary celebration was a more subdued affair than its gala opening.

“Thank you all for joining us this afternoon,” general manager Darren Talbot told staff and residents acknowledging the day. “Five years ago today, this beautiful residence opened its doors to become the new home for so many. In the first five years a beautiful story has being written, Carp Commons is no doubt a beautiful and a well-appointed residence, but it is the residents, families and staff that have made Carp Commons a very special place to call home.”

Three key cogs in Carp Commons’ history, including the retirement residence’s first resident, marked the moment.

“I think it’s appropriate today we ask Carp Commons’ first resident, Faye Steele,  and five-year managers Rebekah Gunning (community relations manager) and Stephanie Barnes (life enrichment manager) to be our official cake cutters celebrating this milestone.“

Carp Commons will also be hosting their annual cruise week in March and will be holding an Open House on March 23 from 1 to 4 p.m.

“Port with us for three hours of fun,” staff released in a statement about the open house. “All passengers will receive a special passport to get stamped as you explore our retirement residence, excursion-style. Enjoy live entertainment, themed cuisine and cocktails, and take part in our signature life enrichment programs. We look forward to sharing with you all that inspired senior living has to offer. The open house this year is an event you do not want to miss.”
