Family Skating Party returns to Galetta Feb. 15
GALETTA – Last year’s inaugural Family Skating Party was a hit, so the Galetta Community Association (GCA) is bringing it back Feb. 15.
Held the day before Family Day, the GCA will host skating, games, free hot dogs and hot chocolate, and of course, all the outdoor skating you can handle Sunday, Feb. 15 from noon until 4 p.m.
There will be a fire to warm up by and of course the indoor change room will be open.
“We really wanted something for families and for kids, and to bring kids back on to the rink,” GCA President Sue Hierlihy told West Carleton Online last year “We’re really, pleased with the day, there are so many kids out here, it’s wonderful. And families as well. The people who look after the rink are fantastic, and the whole village pulled together this week to get the rink cleared off. Volunteers and the regular staff that did that. And the ice is just so good this year. You can hear it, you can hear it in the skates. We picked Family Day weekend, and then that huge storm came along, and we just pivoted at the last minute. This date was available, so we just did it.”
Even last year Hierlihy knew the event would happen again in 2026.
“I definitely think it’s a keeper,” Hierlihy said. “Absolutely, we’re so pleased so many people came out. And so many people found out about our event, and we want them to come back.”
The event is free, and there is no registration required, just head to the outdoor rink behind the Galetta Community Centre (119 Darwin St.) any time between noon and 4 p.m.
