Police briefs: Franktown snowmobile crash claims one life, Child sex doll, Man arrested in Carleton Place robberies

BECKWITH TOWNSHIP – A snowmobile collision, east of Franktown, has left one person deceased.

“On Saturday, Jan. 3, shortly before 4:30 a.m., members of the Lanark County Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to the scene adjacent to Brunton Sideroad,” OPP media relations coordinator Bill Dickson released in a statement today (Jan. 3). “A family member had located a male on private property and had begun life-saving measures until Lanark County paramedics and police arrived.”

The initial investigation has found that the male had been operating a snowmobile when it collided with a parked trailer.

“The male suffered serious injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene,” Dickson said. “The deceased has been identified as a 50-year-old man from the area.”

The investigation by Lanark County OPP, with the assistance of a technical collision investigation officer from the OPP Traffic Incident Management Enforcement (TIME) team.

Admaston-Bromley breach of probation

ADMASTON-BROMLEY – The Renfrew Detachment of the OPP charged one person after responding to a breach of probation call for service.

“On Monday, Dec. 22, 2025, at approximately 10:40 p.m., Renfrew OPP responded to a breach of probation call for service in Admaston-Bromley Township,” OPP Const. Tina Hunt released in a statement yesterday (Jan. 2).  

As a result of the investigation, one person was charged with:

  • Three counts of fail to comply with probation order
  • Two counts of fail to comply with release order  

The accused was held for a bail hearing.

Impaired in Arnprior

ARNPRIOR – The Renfrew Detachment of the OPP charged one person after officers responded to a disturbance, in the Town of Arnprior.

“On Thursday, Dec. 25, 2025, at approximately 4 p.m., Renfrew OPP officers responded to a disturbance call in the Town of Arnprior,” OPP Const. Tina Hunt released in a statement yesterday (Jan. 2).

As a result of the investigation one person was charged with:

  • Operation while impaired alcohol
  • Operation while impaired- blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

The accused was released and scheduled to attend the Ontario Court of Justice in Pembroke on Jan. 28. 

Probation breach in McNab-Braeside

McNAB-BRAESIDE – The Renfrew Detachment of the OPP charged one person after responding to a bail violations call for service.

“On Sunday, Dec. 28, 2025, at approximately 10:30 a.m., Renfrew OPP responded to a bail violations call for service in McNab-Braeside Township,” OPP Const. Tina Hunt released in a statement yesterday (Jan. 2). 

As a result of the investigation, one person was charged with:

–      Failure to comply with undertaking  

The accused was released and is schedule to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Pembroke at a later date.

Renfrew County Festive RIDE results

RENFREW COUNTY – The OPP 2025 Festive Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere (RIDE) campaign commenced on Nov. 20, 2025, and continued until Jan. 1. 

“During the fifth week of the campaign from Dec. 18 to 24, 2025, officers from the Renfrew detachment of the OPP conducted 13 RIDE checks throughout the detachment area,” OPP Const. Tina Hunt released in a statement yesterday (Jan. 2).

As a result of the festive RIDE campaign, one provincial offences charge was laid.

Across eastern Ontario, OPP officers arrested and charged 150 motorists with impaired driving during the annual Festive RIDE campaign.

“Preliminary results show East Region OPP officers conducted more than 1,600 RIDE programs between Thursday, Nov. 20, 2025, and Jan. 1,” OPP media relations coordinator Bill Dickson released in a statement yesterday (Jan. 2). “Each of those 150 drivers who was arrested for impaired operation has had their licence suspended for 90-days and their vehicle was impounded for seven-days, plus they each have a scheduled court appearance.”

Officers also issued 28 licence suspensions for drivers who were found to be in the warn range on an approved roadside alcohol screening device.

“Drivers should be aware new regulations came into effect on Thursday, Jan. 1, resulting in increased licence suspensions and other measures aimed at reducing impaired driving,” Dickson said.

“While the Festive RIDE campaign has wrapped up for the season, RIDE programs will continue,” Dickson said. “They can happen anywhere, day or night, seven days week, along major highways, rural roads or downtown streets. While we could be anywhere, we can’t be everywhere. If you suspect someone is driving impaired by drugs or alcohol, call 911. You could be saving lives.”

Ottawa man charged after importing child sex doll

OTTAWA – The Ottawa Police Service (OPS) arrested and charged a 41-year-old Ottawa man following an investigation related to the importation of a sex doll resembling a child.

“On Dec. 30, 2025, investigators from the OPS Internet Child Exploitation Unit executed a search warrant at a residence in Ottawa’s east end,” the OPS released in a statement Dec. 31, 2025.

Trevor Newcombe, 41, of Ottawa, was arrested and charged with:

  • Importing child sexual abuse and exploitation material; and
  • Unlawful possession of child sexual abuse and exploitation material.

OPP make arrest in Carleton Place robberies

CARLETON PLACE – The Lanark County Detachment of the OPP arrested an individual following two robberies in Carleton Place.

“Officers with the Lanark County OPP were called to a business on Franktown Road just before 3 a.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 31, 2025,” OPP media relations officer Const. Corey Noonan that same day. “A man entered the business, threatened the employee and fled with cigarettes. With the assistance of the OPP Canine Unit and Emergency Response Team members, the accused was located and arrested. Officers also seized a quantity of suspected cocaine.”

The investigation found the accused was also the subject of an arrest warrant for a similar offence that occurred on Christmas Day in Carleton Place.

 John McDonald, 38 from Carleton Place, is charged with:

  • Armed robbery – two counts
  • Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose
  • Possession of a Schedule 1 substance for the purpose of trafficking
  • Fail to comply with release order – two counts
  • Fail to comply with probation order

The accused was remanded in custody following a bail hearing and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Perth on Wednesday, Jan. 7.

Delivery driver dragged in carjacking

LOWERTOWN – A 26-year-old man was arrested following a carjacking in which a food delivery driver was dragged and injured.

“At approximately 9:37 p.m. (on Dec. 30, 2025), the victim was delivering food in the 100 block of Besserer Street when a suspect entered his vehicle in an attempt to steal it,” the OPS released in a statement Dec. 30, 2025. “The victim tried to intervene and held onto the vehicle; however, the suspect drove off while the victim was still holding on. The victim was dragged on the roadway for a considerable distance and was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.”

The suspect fled the scene, and the vehicle was later located abandoned near the Cornwall area.

“The suspect was arrested a short time later near the U.S. border,” the OPS said.

The suspect was transported back to Ottawa and charged with the following offences:

  • Robbery, contrary to section 343 of the Criminal Code
  • Dangerous Operation, contrary to section 320.13(1) of the Criminal Code
  • Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Over $5,000, contrary to section 355(a)(ii) of the Criminal Code
