Severe thunderstorm watch for WC
Special to WC Online
WEST CARLETON – The West Carleton area is spending the second day of September under a severe thunderstorm watch.
“Conditions are favourable for the development of dangerous thunderstorms that may be capable of producing damaging wind gusts, large hail and heavy rain,” Environment Canada released in a statement at 11 a.m. today (Sept. 2). “Severe thunderstorms are possible late this afternoon into early this evening with wind gusts near 100 kilometres per hour moving west to east in the region.”
Very strong wind gusts can damage buildings, down trees and blow large vehicles off the road.
“Remember, severe thunderstorms can produce tornadoes,” Environment Canada said. “Heavy downpours are likely to cause flash floods and water pooling on roads.
There were several thunderstoms and watches throughout August as well as a tornado warning.
