Progress made on Renfrew County forest fires

Special to WC Online

RENFREW COUNTY – Progress is being made battling the forest fires in Renfrew County thanks to a bit of international help. The Pembroke and Area Airport posted a photo last week (July 26) showing 20 firefighters from Mexico who came in to help the Ministry of Natural Resources.

The airport says firefighters from the northern United States and other provinces have also been helping to battle the blazes.

The largest of the fires is still not under control and still sits at 697 hectares in size. The other two in the county are currently being held at 72.5 and 37.5 hectares. Meanwhile another fire in Algonquin Park is burning at roughly 34 hectares.
