Highway 417 exit at March Road getting traffic lights, turning lane

CORKERY – The province is adding traffic lights and a right-hand turning lane where the Highway 417 March Road exit meets March Road on the Carp side of the highway flyover.

The exit has become an increasingly busy spot, especially for Carp and Corkery residents commuting home in the evening. A long line of vehicles can often be seen at that time stretching almost the full length of the exit.

The Ministry of Transportation (MTO) has retained Dillon Consulting Limited to complete the detailed design and class environmental assessment study for improvements at the Highway 417 and March Road interchange.

“The project will include the addition of traffic signals and a new right turn lane from westbound Highway 417 to March Road,” Coun. Eli El-Chantiry said in his latest column. “Milling and resurfacing of outer interchange ramps, and replacement of the culvert under the on-ramp from northbound March Road to Highway 417 east. It is anticipated that temporary, short-term closures of the affected interchange ramps will be required during construction.”

The project is being completed in accordance with the MTO Class EA Provincial Transportation Facilities as a Group C project. Group C projects are considered approved, subject to compliance with the Class Environmental Assessment. Upon completion of the study, an Jan. 23, 2020 to:
