Councillor’s office donates $1,000 to WCFAC

KINBURN – Coun. Eli El-Chantiry hosted his annual office Christmas luncheon last Wednesday (Dec. 18), and with it came his office’s annual donation to the West Carleton Food Access Centre (WCFAC).

El-Chantiry is a big-time supporter of the WCFAC. They share building space at the West Carleton Community Complex on Carp Road, so he sees the WCFAC team on an almost daily basis.

Early in December, El-Chantiry’s family Christmas party was able to fundraise more than $1,200 worth of new socks for West Carleton’s Savvy Seconds – another goodwill project based at the community complex that provides clothing to those who need in.

On Wednesday, El-Chantiry turned his benevolent attention to the WCFAC. But it is also a donation from the community.

“I’ve been doing this for a long time now,” El-Chantiry told West Carleton Online following the office luncheon. “It’s $1,000 from my office budget for things that don’t get donated regularly.”

This is a busy time of year for the WCFAC for needs and donation. The WCFAC adds a Christmas basket program as well as an Angel tree program to its already busy mandate of providing food for those in the community in need.

“Hopefully we can make someone’s Christmas a little happier and it gives the WCFAC some flexibility,” El-Chantiry said.

WCFAC long-time volunteer Mary Braun was on hand to accept the donation.

“Thank you very much Mary, for all you do,” El-Chantiry said.
